The objective of this seminar is to provide students with an active learning experience during which they will acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge in the realm of urban planning and regional development. It aims to understand the concepts, skills, and strategies that are needed in dealing with strategic planning issues in fragmented polycentral metropolitan regions.

The objective of this seminar is to provide students with an active learning experience during which they will acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge in the realm of urban planning and regional development. It aims to understand the concepts, skills, and strategies that are needed in dealing with strategic planning issues in fragmented polycentral metropolitan regions
This seminar has two main parts. The first deals with restructuring processes in polycentral metropolitan regions and the second part concerns the evolution of planning conceptions at the regional metropolitan scale, focusing on selected international examples of regional metropolitan planning.
Students will write a research paper on a self - selected case. Students should select a case study related to a theme from the course, using a policy or project in a specific metropolitan region.
Further information will be given at the beginning and throughout the seminar.
Remark
The participation in this course is limited. The application procedure for all courses starts at the beginning of the semester. More information and deadlines will be announced on the Faculty's website, via E- Mail and through the introductory event.
Certificate of achievement
M.Sc. Spatial Planning (2012): Requirement for passing this course is a proof of successful active participation according to §19 MPO. This includes the following demands: active participation through oral contributions to seminar discussions and a presentation of a research paper (10 pages). In addition participating students can take a marked exam (partial module exam). The choice of exams (usually oral exam or seminar paper) and their conduct are according to the examination regulations and the module handbook.
